I couldn't have put it better myself. God bless. John

The song "Christ or else I die" can be found on redmountain music with the lyrics, chords and a clip. It is stunning and has become the theme music of my life. I just proposed to my church study group that rather than shape the bible study around "self-improvement" we study Jesus--they declined preferring the Christian self-help method of finding a "better me". I gave them the lyrics to the song, this article, and said, good-bye.

Christ, Or Else I Die
Taken from the Gadsby Hymnal # 737
Words - William Hammond, 1719-1783
Music - Drew Holcomb, 2004
D G
Gracious Lord, incline thy ear;
D G
My requests vouchsafe to hear;
D G
Hear my never-ceasing cry;
A G D
Give me Christ, or else I die.
Wealth and honor I disdain,
Earthly comforts, Lord are vain;
These can never satisfy:
Give me Christ, or else I die.
refrain:
Bm A G
All unholy and unclean,
Bm A G
I am nothing else but sin;
Bm A G
On thy mercy I rely;
A G D
Give me Christ, or else I die.
Thou dost freely save the lost;
In thy grace alone I trust.
With my earnest suit comply;
Give me Christ, or else I die.
Thou dost promise to forgive
All who in thy Son believe;
Lord, I know thou canst not lie;
Give me Christ, or else I die.

Welcome to CGO

  • Welcome to Common Grounds Online. Readers of Common Grounds have suggested a website to continue the explorations they began in the book. In keeping with the interactions of Professor MacGregor, Brad, Lauren and Jarrod, the theme of this site is ‘learning and living the Christian story.’

    I have invited friends, and a few friends of friends, to communicate aspects of the Christian story that have been significant in their own lives. We’re all trying to find joy and pleasure in this life and the next, but often we forfeit the joy that could be ours by living out foolish, competing scripts. What distinguishes Common Grounds Online Contributors is not our own goodness, achievement or service, but rather the recognition of our need of God’s grace abounding in our lives.
