I love these clips because there is soul-stirring joy in seeing someone improbable, someone looked down upon, bring beauty of such astonishing character that we are hushed and then pulled into wild cheering.
The scene was Britain's Got Talent this past week.
Susan Boyle, a 47 year old unemployed woman in Scotland who has never been on a date, can sing. From Judge Simon Cowell, known for being a hard and often harsh critic, she wrests a smile. This is fun, this is beautiful. Watch Susan Boyle here.
